Welcome to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Situated in the Bojanala Region of South Africa's North-West Province, the reserve covers some 55 000 hectares and is the 4th largest park in southern Africa. Centred around a 1,3 million-year-old extinct volcano, this diverse and geographically fascinating area is home to wetlands, wooded valleys and rolling grassy hills.

Being malaria-free, Pilanesberg is the perfect family safari destination as there are plenty of superb family-friendly lodges in the reserve. Most - if not all - of them provide supervised kids' programmes, kiddies' menus, playgrounds and even babysitting services when you need a little peace and quiet in the wilderness.

And if you're hoping to see Africa's Big 5 on your Pilanesberg safari, you won't be disappointed: they're all there along with hyena, cheetah, sable, giraffe, zebra, crocodile and hippo. Bird watching at the park is excellent too, with over 300 species of bird recorded.

Should you prefer a self-drive vacation where you're free to explore the park at your own leisurely pace, then Pilanesberg provides 200km of excellent quality roads. Or you could just relax with your binoculars in one hand and a refreshing drink in the other on a morning or evening guided game drive through the bush.
