Depart from Johannesburg early at 6.30am and head north into the great wide expanse of Botswana. Arrive at the Khama Rhino Santuary in the Kalahari sandveld, and spend time searching for rhino.

The Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a community-based wildlife project that protects rhino and restores the area to its previous natural state. It also benefits the local people through tourism and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Spend your evening at the Khama Rhino Sanctuary chalets, each of which have 2 twin share bedrooms and an adjoining bathroom.

Drive through the Kalahari to Maun, known as the gateway to the famed Okavango Delta. Maun was founded in 1915 as the tribal capital of the BaTawana people and is the centre of the local cattle ranching and safari industry.

The name Maun is derived from the San word, 'maung' which means 'the place of short reeds', an apt description of the delta areas.

Stay at Crocodile Camp in Maun, which has en suite twin share bedrooms and a swimming pool.

As you drive into the Okavango Delta, be on the lookout for the large numbers of red lechwe, buffalo elephant and a variety of bird species. The rustic charm of the remote tented camp provides an ideal space to experience the heart of the delta wilderness. Get in touch with nature with a simple bucket bush shower, dome tent and wide open spaces.

One of the most sought-after experiences is to be poled along the reed-lined channels of the delta in a mokoro (dug-out canoe). Sit back and relax as the water gurgles by while your skilled poler points out the surrounding vegetation and wildlife.

For the ultimate Okavango wilderness experience, you can fly out to an area of permanent water for a two night stay at a rustic lodge. Flying over the delta gives an entirely different perspective of the area and is well worth it.

You will return to Maun midday on day 5 for an evening restaurant meal (own expense).

After a relaxing evening, enjoy the rush of open-air game viewing as your driver takes 4WD Land Rovers into the Moremi Game Reserve. Chief's Island is the largest island within Moremi and was the BaTawana tribe's richest hunting grounds, before being declared a game reserve by the tribe.

Spend 3 days on exhilarating game drives searching for wildlife, including large herds of elephant, hippo, buffalo and lion, both in Moremi Game Reserve and in private concession reserves surrounding the park.

On the morning of day 8 enjoy one last full morning game drive before returning to Maun in the early afternoon.

Enjoy an optional flight over the Okavango before you head east to the Makgadikgadi. These shimmering saltpans appear like a glaring white haze on the horizon. When the rain comes, a dramatic change takes place here, as thousands of zebra and wildebeest migrate to the sweet grasslands and flamingos appear like pink clouds in the sky.

Take the opportunity to walk through this continually transforming landscape, before you head towards your accommodation in Nata. End your day by watching a bold red sunset over the Magadikgadi Pans.

Drive north to the Chobe National Park, a destination at the heart of the Botswana experience. The Chobe river flows along the northern boundary of the park, attracting some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa.

Enjoy early morning 4WD game drives and an afternoon game viewing sundowner cruise to see the mighty elephant herds congregate on the banks of the Chobe river.

The final chapter is a highlight as you visit 'The Smoke that Thunders' - Victoria Falls. This breathtaking spectacle is one of the seven wonders of the natural world. Walk along the Victoria Falls bridge or get your adrenalin pumping with the famous bridge bungee jump, a terrifying 111m drop.

At your own expense you can take a microlight or helicopter 'flight of angels' trip, giving you unsurpassed views of the falls. There are also opportunities to whitewater raft down the mighty Zambezi river.

Spend your evenings at the Livingstone SAFPAR Waterfront Lodge, offering en suite twin share chalets, and muse over the potent 'Mosi oa Tunya', 'The Smoke that Thunders'.
