"Determined to show us the best that Kwando could offer, George drove extensively across floodplain and through woodland. Herds of elephant eyed us cautiously as we stopped to watch them feeding, and mixed groups of stripy zebra and spotted giraffe provided a study in contrast...." - Dominic Chadbon, Dogged Determination, June, 2008.

The Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve may indeed offer some of the best game viewing in Africa, but there are many more activities on offer when on a Botswana safari.

The open woodlands and grasslands offer good walking safari country.

Go on an Okavango Delta guided armed walk through the bush in one of the Delta's many private reserves or hang up your boots and spend a lazy afternoon fishing on a tranquil lagoon.

There's more water than you might expect in Botswana and there are boat safaris on offer in many areas.

Take an Okavango Delta motorboat trip through twisting channels during the floods or a slow sunset cruise on the Chobe River.

For birders, a Botswana safari in the rainy season offers excellent bird watching - and the game viewing can be surprisingly good too, especially in the Kalahari region: try the enigmatic Nxai Pan National Park, the mighty Central Kalahari Game Reserve or the endless views of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park for an insight into what happens when the rains come to this semi-desert.

"Nothing quite compares to the thrill of sitting in a flimsy canoe on crocodile-infested water next to a two-tonne monster with a well-deserved reputation for aggression. Luckily, the hippo hadn't seen us so imagine my surprise when our guides began shouting and whistling..." - Dominic Chadbon, Chasing Shadows - Hunting Sitatunga in the Okavango Delta, June, 2008.
