Given Botswana's great waterways of the Chobe River, Okavango Delta and Linyanti Swamps, it comes as a surprise to learn that the fishing is not as prolific as one would think.
The clear waters of the Okavango and Linyanti are deficient in nutrients and the waters of the Delta are seasonal and fickle. Most water-based lodges offer fishing but the best fishing is in the deep, permanent waters of the Panhandle where tiger fish offer good sport and bream the best eating.
The Chobe River offers some decent fishing from its more remote locations. It is highly recommended that the serious angler choose a lodge that specialises in fishing - local knowledge is vital.
