Botswana » General Information » Overview

Sandwiched as it is in the middle of Southern Africa, far from the oceans and dominated by the Kalahari, Botswana is predominantly a hot, dry country, with a well-defined rainy season.

Mostly flat and sparsely populated, it is a country that has transformed itself from a dusty colonial backwater to a vibrant modern democracy. A strong economy, a well- developed tourist industry and growing infrastructure ensures an excellent travel experience.

The map of Botswana shows that Botswana is dominated by the Kalahari Desert. With an area of 582 500 sq km, Botswana has an average elevation of 1000 metres. In the far north, the Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta on earth.
