Botswana's Parks & Reserves

Botswana offers some of the best game viewing in Africa. From the clear waters of the Okavango Delta to the dry grasslands of the Kalahari, Botswana is a naturalist's paradise.

These destinations feature some of the finest wildlife areas in Botswana:

Moremi Game Reserve - Protecting a third of the Okavango Delta is one of Africa's most beautiful wildlife reserves - Moremi. A wild blend of wetlands, floodplains and woodlands it is teeming with game and is a top birding destination.

Chobe National Park - From the banks of the Chobe River in the north, crowded with elephant, hippo and buffalo, to the remote woodlands and savanna of its interior, Chobe's diverse habitats guarantee a great variety of wildlife, including large numbers of predators.

Savuti - A distinct region of the Chobe National Park, Savuti is a remote area dominated by "the Marsh"- a once flooded expanse of grassland fed by fickle waterways to the north. Now the marsh is dry but the savanna and woodlands support great numbers of animals, including the legendary lion prides, hyena clans and large numbers of elephants.

Linyanti/Selinda Reserves - These two private concessions are part of the mysterious network of swamps floodplains and rivers that link the northern waterways with the Okavango Delta. Great game viewing and birdlife is offered in these exclusive areas.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park - Summer rains transform the dusty pans into shimmering oceans of water packed with birdlife while the surrounding grasslands support large herds and watchful predators. Read more about Makgadikgadi Pans.

Central Botswana is home to remote and little-visited parks, including the enormous Belgium-sized Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

The southern Kalahari hosts Africa's first transfrontier park, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, shared with South Africa, and the eastern Tuli Block is where many small private reserves can be found.

Access to these areas is either with a mobile safari or as a fly-in itinerary.
