Most famous for its game parks and reserves, Botswana nevertheless has other areas of cultural, historical and archaeological interest.
From Bushman paintings on remote Kalahari hills to the mysterious signs of long-forgotten cultures, Botswana is more than simply a wildlife destination.
Botswana boasts a UN World Heritage Site: the Tsodilo Hills in the remote northwest Kalahari. Described by Laurens van der Post as the 'Louvre of the desert filled with treasure', it is a collection of over 2,000 San Bushman rock paintings set in a range of low rocky hills.
The area is of great archaeological and cultural importance, as well home to some of Botswana's San.
