The Chobe National Park is one of Africa's greatest wildlife destinations.

With the continent's largest elephant population, tons of buffalo, antelope, zebra, giraffe and the full range of predators it's a naturalist's delight, but at nearly 12 000km2 Chobe is a massive park with distinct regions.

Our Chobe Travel Guide provides an overview of the different travel areas of Chobe, ranging from open grasslands to enormous woodlands and of course the Chobe River itself, a magnet for thousands of thirsty animals in the dry winter months.

There is more to Chobe than animals however, as our history section will show you, and the region has long been settled - find out more in our people & culture feature.

"While the animals have never bothered too much with border formalities, tour operators in the area are very much on the ball when it comes to seeing this region as one destination. Mobile phones are on the hip of every guide or driver and they can arrange activities in any place you want while tour companies chalk up daily specials to here, there and everywhere..." - Dominic Chadbon, 'Victoria Falls & Chobe: An Awesome Package Deal', February 2008.
