Elephants, elephants, elephants...if you want to see African elephants in their natural environment then the Chobe National Park is hard to beat.

But don't think that's all Chobe has to offer.

Its varied environment supports a wealth of wildlife - including a great array of large predators - and the park boasts an impressive bird count as well with its birdlife nicely balanced between water birds, forest dwellers and the more arid area specialists, as our Chobe Wildlife will show you.

Most of the Chobe's 11 000km2 is covered in open woodland but its vegetation varies according to soil type and proximity to water - compare the riverine forest of the Chobe River to the open grasslands of Savuti.

"While the animals have never bothered too much with border formalities, tour operators in the area are very much on the ball when it comes to seeing this region as one destination. Mobile phones are on the hip of every guide or driver and they can arrange activities in any place you want while tour companies chalk up daily specials to here, there and everywhere..." - Dominic Chadbon, 'Victoria Falls & Chobe: An Awesome Package Deal', February 2008.
