As impressive as the Okavango Delta is, it is only one of the jewels that make up northern Botswana's wilderness crown.

Chobe

Ecologically and geographically connected to the legendary Chobe National Park, most visitors to the Delta combine a safari with some aspect of this 12,000km² wildlife paradise.

Mobile safaris will explore both areas and a flight from the heart of the water-logged Delta to the stark burning savanna of Chobe's Savuti region takes only an hour. Excellent lodges, often the sister camps of Delta lodges, are located in Chobe's most game-rich areas.

Kalahari

A more tenuous ecological link exists between the Okavango Delta and the ancient waterways of the Kalahari: exceptional floods spill into enigmatic rivers and lakes here, attracting wildlife from all over northern Botswana.

The excellent parks and reserves of this region can be accessed at any time of year and stand alone as separate and contrasting destinations to the Delta.

Experience the Kalahari at its most magnificent in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, an area where small communities of San Bushmen still eke out a precarious existence amid teeming game, or try the wildly contrasting images of Nxai Pan National Park where desert species like gemsbok graze next to elephant.

The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park offers horizon-stretching salt pans and grasslands that burst with life in the rainy season.

Victoria Falls

Further afield lies the awesome spectacle of the mighty Zambezi thundering over Victoria Falls. Many Botswana mobile safaris begin or end here and a fly-in option is easy to arrange from the Delta although it would mean clearing Customs and Immigration in either Maun or Kasane.

You have the choice to base your Victoria Falls experience on either the Zimbabwean or Zambian side of the thundering falls.
