Leaving Cape Town, you head north past lush vineyards, crossing the Piketberg Pass into the rich fruit growing area of Citrusdal.

Your first night is spent in a picturesque campsite surrounded by local wine farms. This afternoon you have the opportunity to sample some of the nectar of the gods or to explore the surrounding beautiful Cederberg Mountains.

You continue north from the Cederberg, passing through Namaqualand - a region well known for its prolific display of Namaqua wildflowers in spring.

After stopping for supplies in Springbok, you continue on through the desert area of the Richtersveld, on the way to the Orange River.

The Orange River is the natural land border between South Africa and Namibia, and it is here where you will camp for the night.

This morning you have the option of a half-day canoe trip on the peaceful waters of the Orange River, providing the perfect opportunity for some bird watching.

After lunch you cross into Namibia, reaching the Fish River Canyon after a short drive.

At 161 km long, 27 km wide and about 550 m deep, it's the second largest canyon in the world. The outer canyon was formed by tectonic activity, while the erosion of the Fish River formed the inner canyon. A road follows the eastern rim, providing access to several viewpoints overlooking spectacular vistas.

After a leisurely morning at the Fish River Canyon, you head north through Namibia's farming area.

We stop in Bethanie, a quaint, former missionary town, for supplies. You head to camp and spent the night under a beautiful, clear sky.

Heading north you enter the Namib-Naukluft Park in one of the oldest deserts in the world. You head to the base at Sesriem, an ideal place to experience the Namib and its many moods.

A short distance away is Sossusvlei, surrounded by towering sand dunes and their ever-changing sea of colours. Magnificent views of the desert can be had from the top of the dunes, some over 300 m high, and reputed to be the tallest in the world. We spend the afternoon exploring this fascinating area.

An optional excursion is a walk lead by specialised guides, giving you the chance to learn about the amazing history, geology, flora and fauna of the region. This tour also offers a glimpse into the cultural legacy of the San people. View the sunset from the summit of Dune 45 - a truly memorable experience.

After watching the sun rise over boundless stretches of golden sand, you leave the serenity of the dunes and head in a north-westerly direction to meet the Atlantic Ocean at Walvis Bay.

Following the coast for some 35 km, you arrive at Namibia's prime holiday resort, Swakopmund, ready for a night of rest and relaxation.

Founded by the Germans in 1892, their colonial influence is still evident today.

Swakopmund has a selection of excellent coffee shops, restaurants & bars as well as many arts and crafts shops selling Namibian curios. There are fine beaches to walk along as well as museum, aquarium and galleries to visit.

An activity brief will be held on arrival in Swakopmund, highlighting the wealth of optional excursions on offer, ranging from sky diving, quad biking and sand boarding to scenic desert flights, dolphin cruises and horse riding.

You enjoy a leisurely breakfast, looking back on the past few days' events, before saying your goodbyes, having experienced a journey to remember.
