Kenya » Cities and towns » Eldoret

The largest town in the area, and boasting an international airport, Eldoret has all the conveniences and is a good place to stock up for your explorations of the Western Highlands.

It's on the way if you are heading north to Mount Elgon National Park or the Cherangani Hills. If you are southbound on a Kenya Safari to the Masai Mara or Aberdare National Park you may want to break the journey with a stopover here.

Quite bizarrely, Eldoret is a Kenyan town founded by Afrikaners. The town was originally known as 64, because it was established at the 64th mile post on the wagon route from Londiani.
