Set on a mangrove-filled bay just off the road south, this sleepy little village was once the headquarters of Sheikh Mbaruk bin Rashid, who led an uprising against the British in 1895 and was renowned for asphyxiating prisoners with the fumes of burning chillies and then torturing them. His mansion is now a school.
