Work alongside local Kenyans, as part of an ongoing development programme, to improve the lives of the local people.
Spend 21 days assisting in the building and renovation of classrooms and other amenities. While lending a hand, you will learn new skills such as bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, painting, and basket weaving. There may also be the opportunity to teach and coach sports.
In addition to the rewarding work, this visit offers you a wide variety of safari experiences and the chance of visit the beautiful Kenyan coastline.
- Day 1: Arrive in Kenya

Arrive at Mombasa Airport and transfer to the base, situated near the Indian Ocean. Here, you will receive a brief orientation of Diani, followed by a short, scenic transfer to Mukurumuji camp. On arrival you will enjoy lunch.
After settling into your tented accommodation, you are given a full briefing and orientation before dinner.

- Day 2: Time for a Swahili Lesson
- Itinerary
In the morning, after a wildlife safety briefing, enjoy a guided walk to spot elephants (who roam freely in the area) and visit the local community and school. After dinner, you are given a basic Swahili lesson.

- Days 3-7: Volunteer Programme Starts
- Itinerary
Spend five rewarding days participating in the school and community development programme at Mukurumuji. Work involves expanding and enhancing existing facilities, as well as building new ones.

You will have an opportunity to relax on the beach, do some shopping, or sign up for one of the many optional adventure activities available at Aqualand Adventure Centre.

- Day 9: Experience the Culture

In the morning, you are shown around a traditional local homestead of the coastal Swahili people by a specialist guide for a 'hands on' cultural experience. This could include basket weaving, roof thatching, and local food harvesting, preparation and cooking techniques.

Shimba Hills National Reserve offers beautiful scenery combined with a unique and botanically rich coastal rainforest. It is most famous for its sable antelope that are found nowhere else in Kenya, and is also a haven for the endangered Angolan black and white Colobus monkey.
You have the opportunity to explore this area on a game drive before transferring to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary. The sanctuary has the highest density (per sq.km) of elephants in Africa. Learn about elephant behaviour and the threats facing these amazing animal.
The night is spent at the Mwaluganje Elephant Camp, situated on a hill overlooking the sanctuary.
- Day 15: Big Game Safari

Tsavo East National Park is an amalgamation of contrasting panoramas, from river woodlands to cool mountain forests, and is one of the largest national parks in Kenya.
Game drives start immediately. As you drive slowly towards your camp, look out for elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard, impala, warthog, buffalo, lesser kudu, baboons and fun vervet monkeys.
Afternoon and night game drives give you the chance to spot more elusive nocturnal creatures.
- Day 16: More Safaris
- Itinerary
Enjoy an early morning game drive before breakfast, and then take a leisurely drive towards the Buchuma Gate where you exit the park.
You transfer back to Mukurumuji Camp in the evening.

- Day 17: Sun and Sea

Relish another rest day, where you can do as much, or as little, as you choose. Optional adventure activities are available at Aqualand Adventure Centre.
