Kisii

Kisii is the main centre for the Gusii people. It is also home to Kisii soapstone - a pale pink stone that is often coloured with designs. Ironically, Kisii is not a great place to buy soapstone for the simple reason that very few people visit here. As a result the more beautiful pieces of sculpture leave the town for expensive shops and galleries elsewhere. The nearby village of Tabaka is where soapstone is quarried.
