Kipungani Explorer is situated at the end of a 12km crescent beach on the south-western tip of Lamu Island, just off the coast of Kenya.

The brightly covered cushions in the lounge and bar area contrast with the sun-bleached driftwood furniture, shells and beach paraphernalia that decorate the terrace together with inviting hanging moon beds.

There are no doors or windows at Kipungani, so air is free to circulate, but there is electricity and a ceiling fan to give you a cool breeze during the warm summer evenings.

Enjoy a swim in the inviting pool or go windsurfing and waterskiing on the beautiful turquoise sea in front of your cottage. Alternatively you can take a boat to the islands of Kinyika during the neap tides, where scuba diving is excellent, or enjoy a deep sea fishing excursion searching for marlin and barracuda.

Kipungani Explorer is also the ideal base from which to explore the island of Lamu; a dhow safari and an exploration of its museums and 14th century mosques is a fascinating experience.

Accommodation at Kipungani Explorer comprises 14 luxurious bandas, grass and thatch chalets, scattered in front of 25 acres of coconut plantation.

The roofs and walls of the bandas are all woven by the local villagers of the nearby Kipungani and Matondoni. The suites have king-size beds, with mosquito nets, and palm furniture, and on the private ocean-facing verandas there are comfortable sun-loungers.
