Lodwar is the largest town in north western Kenya. Once known as the isolated outpost of the Northern Frontier District, Lodwar is now connected to Kitale and the Central Highlands by a bitumen road. Not to say that this dusty town is now a raving metropolis, but it does have a post office and a bank. The town's inhabitants are a mix of the fiery Turkana tribespeople and the transitory truckdriving community. The town's main industries are basket weaving and tourism.
