Masai Mara » General Information » Overview

The Masai Mara Reserve - best known as the departure and arrival point for the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and antelope - is the most popular game park in Kenya. It stretches over the vast grassy plains of the southwestern corner of this spectacular East African country.

The Mara borders Tanzania and the two countries share the vast Serengeti plains, with wildlife free to roam between Kenya and Tanzania.

The migration may be the spectacle best known to all, but the Masai Mara is famous for its rich and varied animal populations throughout the year. Resident predator populations abound - much to the annoyance of some two million travelling wildebeest. Wherever you safari within the Mara, you are bound to see an incredible amount of wildlife.

There's a wide range of safari lodges and tented camps within the Masai Mara Reserve and on the outskirts of its northern and eastern boundaries.

By vehicle it takes six hours from Nairobi or just half an hour by air from Nairobi Wilson Airport.
