Elsa's Kopje was named after the famous lioness reared by George & Joy Adamson of "Born Free" fame, as she frequented this area often and was released into the wild in Meru.

Meru National Park is vast with arid, open plains dotted with Doum palms, baobab trees and lush vegetation along the 13 rivers which flow through the park. From the hill you will be greeted with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and the wetlands below. The cottages are the ultimate rooms-with-a-view, uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside.

You can enjoy game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and nature walks accompanied by knowledgeable driver-guides, fishing, night drives and rafting on the Tana River. In between safari activities you can enjoy the additional activities such as taking a dip in the pool, unwinding with a massage or browse the library and on-site gift shop.

The food at Elsa's Kopje is traditional northern Italian cuisine blended with a selection of local and international dishes, freshly baked bread, crisp salads and locally grown vegetables. Other options include bush breakfasts, picnics and sundowners.

The 9 stone and thatch guest cottages at Elsa's Kopje are crafted around the natural features of the hill. Every cottage is uniquely designed and furnished with generously sized double or twin beds which are swathed in mosquito netting. The bathrooms are sumptuous; showers or baths made out of stone, modern flush toilets, bidets and double basins.

A double cottage is set slightly apart from the others and is ideal for families with children, or a group.

Elsa's Private House is set apart from the rest of the lodge, providing complete exclusivity and privacy. The house consists of a double bedroom and a spacious twin room, both with en-suite bathrooms. The house's living area spills onto your own deck and private swimming pool.
