Elsa's Kopje

Exclusive safari lodge in Meru National Park.

  • Diverse Game Sightings - see a wide range of rare and more commom species.

  • Cultural Visits - learn about the local people on an excursion to the Tharaka tribal village.

  • Born Free - the lodge is built on the site of the original camp from the film 'Born Free'.

Elsa's Kopje was named after the famous lioness reared by George & Joy Adamson of "Born Free" fame, as she frequented this area often and was released into the wild in Meru.

Meru National Park is vast with arid, open plains dotted with doum palms, baobab trees and lush vegetation along the 13 rivers which flow through the park. From the hill you'll be greeted with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and the wetlands below.

The cottages at Elsa's Kopje are the ultimate rooms-with-a-view, uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside.

You can enjoy game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and nature walks accompanied by knowledgeable driver-guides, fishing, night drives and rafting on the Tana River. In between safari activities you can enjoy the additional activities such as taking a dip in the pool, unwinding with a massage or browsing the library and on-site gift shop.

Location
