Nairobi Area

Kenya is divided somewhat confusingly, into seven provinces and one area. The Nairobi area was basically an uninhabited swamp until the beginning of the 20th century when a supply depot for the Uganda Railway was built here.

The area has expanded dramatically over the last 100 years, and the city of Nairobi now serves as the headquarters for several international companies and organizations, making it one of the most influential cities in Africa.
