Nakuru is home to the flamingo-packed Lake Nakuru, which forms part of the Lake Nakuru National Park - an area of good game viewing (including both black and white rhino) and a jaw-dropping 400 species of bird. If you are in the mood for pink, then head north for Lake Bogoria National Park and its flocks of up to 2 million flamingos or south for the freshwater Lake Naivasha.

Kenya's fourth largest town and the capital of the Rift Valley Province, Nakuru is a cheerful agricultural town with a great vegetable market - testament to its fertile soils. It is also a jumping-off point for the Menengai Crater (the second largest surviving volcanic crater in existence), and Hyrax Hill Prehistoric Site (a major Neolithic and Iron Age site) as well as the ever popular Aberdare National Park.
