Namanga

Most visitors approach Amboseli from this small town, which is the main border post between Kenya and Tanzania. The town is overlooked by Oi-Doinyo Orok, or Black Mountain, which is sacred to the Maasai. Here you will find endless stalls selling Maasai handicrafts and, perhaps more usefully, a petrol station. Namanga is about 60km from Amboseli on a very bumpy, heavily corrugated dirt road that could pop the eyeballs straight out of your head.
