Kenya » Places of interest » Ngong Hills

The rolling hills of Ngong and Karen are where the white settlers set up their farms and made themselves at home in the early colonial 'Happy Valley' days. What remains are incongruous half-timbered houses and flowering gardens, which are more suited to southern England than Africa.

In true colonial tradition there is also a racecourse, and the busy race day is every second Sunday for most of the year. If you prefer to ride a horse rather than bet on one, enquire at Let's Go Travel in Nairobi. There are lovely views from the Ngong Hills over Nairobi, but as this is a hot haunt for muggers it is better not to go alone. We also advise you drive around the hills rather than walk.
