Despite its proximity to the equator, Nyahururu, Kenya's highest town, has an invigorating climate and forests of cool conifers. One of the last white settler towns to be established, Nyahururu is also fondly known as T-falls after the waterfalls on the outskirts of town.
The 72 metre Thomson's Falls were named after Joseph Thomson who was the first European to walk from Mombasa to Lake Victoria in the early 1880s. Above the falls is the Thomson's Falls Lodge, an old colonial hang out, which is a popular stop for safari minibuses en route to the Rift Valley and Samburu.
