Natural Design - a unique and airy design is achieved through the creative use of stone, wood and water.
Abundance of Wildlife - whether watching birds from your bed or witnessing a lion kill on the plains, African wildlife surrounds you.
Masai Guides - experienced and knowledgeable local guides are on hand to explain your surroundings to you.
Perched on the very edge of the Nguruman Escarpment with expansive views across the Rift Valley, Shampole seems to meld with and incorporate its natural surroundings in a uniquely stylish way. All details have been inspired by the African environment and include local natural elements such as white quartz rock, polished fig tree trunks and the water that seems to run through it all. As you recline on one of the scattered levels of the main lodge overlooking the infinity pool, birds or bats, depending on the time of day, swoop through the beams above you and the bush seems to encroach on you.
The best way to experience the bush and its many secrets is to take an early morning walk through the area, with a knowledgeable Masai to point out the tiny but amazing details you would certainly have missed by yourself. However, to view the larger game, of which there is a great abundance and variety, game viewing from the modified 4x4's is very rewarding. In fact it is the night drives which often prove to be the most popular, as the rarer, nocturnal animals emerge and feeding lions are often spotted.
Mountain Bikes and canoes are also available if you wish to explore under your own steam, however, remember to take along a guide to explain it all as you go along. It is the friendly, attentive, well informed Masai guides and staff that add to the general enjoyment of your stay. And as part of an initiative to uplift the local community, they will enthusiastically explain their customs and traditions to you, as well as guide you on a shopping spree around the local village market.
The nearby soda lake of Natron, is one of the few flamingo breeding areas in Africa and shimmers red with the algae eaten by the pink birds. The lake, known as "the Lake of Fire” by the Masaai, is an unforgettable experience, best viewed as the sky turns fiery red above you, holding a soothing sundowner in your hand.
[The beauty of the surroundings and the privacy of the rooms, make Shompole an ideal destination for honeymooners and romantics.
LocationShompole is located in Southern Kenya, on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment, overlooking the Rift Valley.
