Saiwa Swamp National Park

Only 3km² in size, this delightful park was created to ensure the preservation of the Sitatunga antelope. Saiwa is, in fact, the only Kenyan park in which this semi-aquatic swamp creature lives.

The park can only be visited on foot, and bridges and trails meander through the swamp dotted with observation decks. Birdwatching is excellent here, and the park is also inhabited by black-and-white colobus monkey, giant forest squirrel, grey duiker, and the endangered De Brazza's monkey.

The swamp is east of the Kitale-Kapenguria road and the turnoff is clearly sign posted about 15km out of Kitale.
