This little Arabic village close to Kilifi is supposed to be the oldest slave port on the Kenyan coast and the local people are very superstitious. Strange Swahili stories are told which date back to the days of slavery and no one goes down to the beach at night, unless they are going fishing. In Takaungu you can find accommodation at Takaungu House - an old slave trader's home located on deserted beach.
