About 24 km south of Malindi, is the Watamu Marine National Park.

The park has over 140 species of coral and is abundant with marine life. The 'Big Three Caves', situated at the entrance to Mida Creek, are the marine park's most exciting attraction. The caves are named after three giant rock cod, each apparently weighing as much as 200 kilogrammes. This area is strictly regulated by park rangers and visitors are limited in number.

Inside, the caves are lined with bright coral. The organic decor has an interesting effect on fish, and divers can watch as fish unwittingly swim upside down searching for food along the caves coral-carpeted ceiling.

For birdlovers, Whale Island is worth a visit. Located at the park's southern end, this local can be explored by foot at low tide. Further inland from the creek, the tidal flats offer another birding adventure. The area surrounding them is inhabited by various species of egret and heron.

Most hotels located nearby the park are equipped to offer tours, and glass bottom boats are as available to rent as are snorkels and goggles.
