Bordering Uganda, this is one of Kenya's seven administrative provinces (excluding the Nairobi area) and is inhabited mainly by the Luhya tribe. Roughly 4.6 million people strong, the Luhya are the second largest ethnic group in Kenya.
A somewhat surreal piece of trivia is that there are potentially more followers of Quakerism in this region, than there are in the rest of the world combined. Quakerism is a contentious quasi-Christian movement that began in England during the 17th century. Various Quaker branches have extremely different beliefs and practices, with some members regarding the movement as Christian, and others advocating agnosticism, atheism, and even paganism.
