About Me
I grew up in the Free State, lived in Plettenberg Bay and have settled in Cape Town. I lived in Minnesota, USA for a year as an exchange student during which time I travelled quite extensively across the country. I also did a two year "sabbatical" in Israel and worked on a kibbutz.
I enjoy cooking and strive to try different dishes from different countries - note the word 'strive' though.
Where have I travelled
I've covered all of South Africa, and have also visited Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya. Tanzania, Zanzibar and the Seychelles. Internationally I have been to the USA, Mexico, Israel, Sinai, Cyprus and the UK.
My favourite travel moment
Watching lions swimming across a river in Zambia. The sun was setting and we had travelled a long day to get to where we were going. There were two female lions and a male. The male was not as brave as the females and you could see him hesitating somewhat until a hippo came into the picture and mock charged him. Didn't take him too long after that to follow the ladies.
What I love about Africa
Having been given the opportunity to travel to various countries on different continents, the people of Africa are what makes her stand out for me. Warm, friendly and always willing to try and help when its needed, the Africans are what make Africa unique.
Some African travel advice
Travel light. Leave the glitz and the glam at home and immerse yourself in the culture of the country you are in - after all, that's why we travel.
Where I'd love to travel next
A trip to India is on the cards to celebrate an upcoming birthday. And after that, wherever the compass points. I prefer places that are not too well visited so my list includes the Amazon, Uganda, Morocco and Vietnam, but Greece, Holland and New Zealand are also in the mix.
