Accommodation in Lesotho is generally of a lower standard than in South Africa, with many establishments (even mid-range ones) suffering from poor maintenance.

Three categories of Lesotho accommodation prevail: low-cost dormitories in rural or religious mission settings, urban hotels usually frequented by conference-goers, and relaxed and well-run country lodges or guesthouses.

The last category is your best option, but the costs of all of these are slightly higher than in rural South Africa. Note that general sales tax is usually added to the quoted rate.

It is safe for campers to pitch a tent on any spot, though you should always seek the permission of locals first. You may be offered a tribal hut, for which you should offer to pay about M15.
