View all accommodation in Lesotho
Although accommodation in Lesotho is generally of a lower standard than in South Africa, with some establishments suffering from poor maintenance, there has been a growth in a few select decent and even luxury lodges.
Since most visitors visiting Lesotho want to do pony trekking, it's likely they'll stay away from the cities and head deep into the mountains with a guide, staying in self-catering cottages. Remote and beautiful scenery await, although the accommodation itself can be quite basic.
Three categories of Lesotho accommodation tend to prevail: low-cost dormitories in rural or religious mission settings, urban hotels usually frequented by conference-goers, and relaxed and well-run country lodges or guesthouses.
The guesthouses and country lodges are the best option, but the costs of all of these are slightly higher than in rural South Africa. Note that general sales tax is usually added to the quoted rate.
It is safe for campers to pitch a tent on any spot, though you should always seek the permission of locals first. You may be offered a tribal hut, for which you should offer to pay about M15.
