Lesotho has only one major national park - the Sehlabathebe National Park. It has little wildlife, but its scenery is stunningly beautiful and its atmosphere tranquil and serene.
In 2001, Sehlabathebe was linked with South Africa's Natal Drakensberg park to create the Maluti-Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA). This peace park is intended to preserve the significant biodiversity of its area, 5 170km2 (64%) of which lies in Lesotho and 2 943 km2 (36%) in KwaZulu-Natal.
The area in which the TFCA occurs is a biodiversity hotspot, with unique habitats and many endemic species, as well as the greatest gallery of rock art in the world.
