General Information about Lesotho

The tiny, rugged mountain nation of Lesotho is entirely surrounded by its far more famous and well-visited neighbour, South Africa.

Its entire surface area (of 30,355km²) is more than 1 000m above sea level (and 80% of it is higher than 1 800m above sea level). It shares approximately 900km of border with South Africa.

The Basotho people live mostly traditional lives in this rugged and unforgiving but starkly beautiful land.
