As one of the most spectacular mountain roads in southern Africa, Sani Pass is one of Lesotho's top experiences.
If you're entering Lesotho from South Africa, then the Sani Pass is the way to do it.
No country has such an impressive welcome, but as you wind yourself down the steep hair-pin bends, keep your hands on the wheel of your 4x4 and your eyes on the road - with Lesotho's varied weather conditions, the pass can be as trecherous as it is beautiful.
Sehlabethebe National Park is found in Lesotho's south-east corner, and due to it being almost inaccessible (except with a 4x4), means that it is incredibly quiet and peaceful - and an ideal place for bird-watching.
Some of the rare birds to look out for are the bald ibis, Drakensberg siskin, mountain pipit, Drakensberg rock-jumper, bearded vulture and sightings of the majestic bateleur eagle - which makes the Drakensberg its home but which is also found in Lesotho.
Lesotho's parks and reserves are home to a host of rough and rugged hiking trails which offer some of the most striking and beautiful scenery in this little mountain kingdom.
Hike, trek and climb along crumbly escarpments, through grasslands and past surreal rock formations to experience the wild beauty of the Lesotho backcountry.
