Lesotho: Towns & Cities

Lesotho's major towns are predominantly located in the Lesotho lowlands. The capital city of Maseru - which is also the only large city - with its dusty streets and new glass buildings, is the quintessential image of an African city.

The countryside is dotted with tiny traditional homesteads, an indicator of the lifestyle of most of Lesotho's rural dwellers. Home to only a few families, each homestead is usually self-sufficient, but many people travel into the towns for basic supplies.
