At the conjunction of the Tsehlanyane and Holomo Rivers lies a rugged mountain wilderness home to one of Lesotho's remaining indigenous woodland areas.
The high altitude of the area - ranging from 1940 to 3112m - means the landscape is mostly sub-alpine and contains a number of unique undergrowth vegetation.
The 5600ha Tsehlanyane National Park is a scenic part of this already visually spectacular part of Lesotho, and its Che-Che woodland and rare mountain fynbos make it unique to other National Parks.
The banks of the rivers that wind down the mountains are of significant cultural significance to the local Basotho people; the berg bamboo is highly revered in cultural matters.
Tsehlanyane National Park is also home to Maliba Mountain Lodge, the only luxury lodge in Lesotho, offering an incredibly scenic, peaceful and quiet break.
About 24 small animals have been recorded in the highlands area, including the black-backed jackal, African wild cat, porcupine, rhebuck, caracal and the Cape clawless otter.
