Rovos Air and Rail

Catering to a maximum of 80 passengers, Rovos private air and rail charters can construct itineraries that are as fantastical as they are practical; all within your specific time and budget constraints.

There are a number of ways to combine the Rovos Rail 44-bed luxury train and 72-bed classic luxury trains with the Rovos Rail private planes (these include a Convair 440 aircraft, DC 4 Skymaster and DC 3 Delaney) into an unbelievable air and rail adventure across Africa.

The Rovos trains and planes are available for private air charters at certain times of the year; alternatively you can "buy out" a scheduled trip (this can sometimes be a more affordable option).

Departing from Capital Park, holiday groups can enjoy a luxury rail journey that can range from one to 10 days. Incentive teams, large families and historical interest groups are just some of the Rovos 'air and rail travel' regulars.

Explore southern African highlights as you 'fly and rail' from place to place. Combine a few nights on the Rovos Luxury Train with overnights in Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta or Dar es Salaam.

Subject to availability and within reason, the chartered Rovos Rail luxury trains can travel to any southern Africa destination that has a railway line.

The Rovos Air Fleet

The Rovos airplanes were built in 1954 for the US Air Force and were based in Texas until 1992. They then served in Cochabamba, Bolivia, for eight years before being purchased by Rohan Vos and flown to South Africa.

After long and successful careers as workhorses in the military and commercial airlines, they've successfully changed their flight plan to deliver luxury air safaris. Their new addition, a 1944 DC-3 named Delaney, has been rebuilt with 21 business class seats and a very plush interior.
