Light, airy, sophisticated: these are the words that come to mind about The Oracle. From the chic dark grey exterior with its minimalist geometric architecture and indigenous flora to the uncluttered interior, there is an emphasis on understated style here.
The Oracle is coloured in palettes of cream, sandstone and grey. In keeping with the clean lines of the design and architecture, the focus is monochromatic, making for a visually restful space. The eye is drawn outside, and the vast windows and glass doors make the most of the arresting views across Camps Bay. Works of vibrant art scattered throughout add splashes of bright colour.
The Oracle is set on the slopes of Camps Bay, one of Cape Town's most desirable neighbourhood. It is on the Atlantic Seaboard, meaning excellent sunsets can be enjoyed from the pool deck and private balcony or at one of the many trendy eateries lining ‘The Strip’ that frames the beach.
Spend lazy days on the curved Camps Bay beach with its power-soft sand and cool ocean. There is a warm tidal pool, and to get away from the beautiful people thronging the bay, you can take your towel over to intimate Glen Beach. Camps Bay really does have something for everyone: beaches, cafés, restaurants and cocktail bars, nightlife and views forever. Whether you enjoy water sports like kayaking or stand-up paddling or prefer to explore all that central Cape Town has to offer, Camps Bay is the perfect location.
The Oracle is a great holiday home for an extended family, where the youngest members are in their teens and the oldest are still young at heart. It also fits the bill for a large group of like-minded friends keen to enjoy the fine living and vibrancy that has made Cape Town one of the world's most popular vacation destinations.
Summer in Cape Town extends from October to April. December and January are very hot and the beaches are full. The best time of year is from February to April, when the days are warm and the southeaster wind dies down.
Winter, from May to August, is mild and although it can be quite wet, there are plenty of warm sunny days and long sunsets. Roaring fires and the many special menus at top restaurants and wine estates mean the cooler months are a good time to visit.
The Oracle is built on three levels but lifts make it disabled-friendly. There is parking for five cars in a private garage, and the villa is fully alarmed, giving security and comfort to guests.
The open-plan kitchen is a cook's dream, stocked with amenities and appliances. There are gas and electric hobs, as well as convection ovens. There is also a large wine rack within easy reach of the dining table.
The six bedrooms are The Oracle's most remarkable feature. The third level is the penthouse, called Nirvana, with an emphasis on luxurious furnishings and fittings. There are wrap-around sea views a separate lounge with a TV.
Four of the bedrooms are on the second level. The master bedroom, Atlantic, is framed in glass to make the most of the sweeping views. A king-size bed faces out to sea and there is a sitting area. The other rooms are as luxurious but vary in size. The largest is Lion's Head, which has its own patio. Down the stairs is a private garden cottage. It has a small patio with views of the Atlantic, making it perfect for guests who need a private getaway.
All rooms are en suite. The penthouse boasts a flow-through, open-plan bathroom with a deep rounded bathtub and walk-in shower. The master en suite bathroom also has a walk-in shower, Jacuzzi and a bathtub overlooking Camps Bay. The garden cottage has a huge bathroom complete with bathtub and shower.
The entertainment area is on the first level and is furnished with sleek L-shaped couches, with a large flat-screen television for a night in. It is a stylish and comfortable open-plan room, with dining space for six indoors. This is the heart of the villa, set with socialising in mind. There is air conditioning for the hot summer and heating for winter, as well as a linear open fireplace.
The living area leads out on to the wooden deck and pool, where there is a barbecue. There is an outdoor dining table for tapas and sundowners or alfresco dining. The penthouse has a large private balcony with a Jacuzzi and sun loungers, as well as spectacular views. The Lion's Head room also has a private patio.
There is an inviting cocktail bar to mix your sundowners, and a small mezzanine lounge away from the main living area for some quiet down time. The top level penthouse is a mini condo on its own, complete with lounge and television.
