Style & Décor

Dating back to 1905, Uplands Homestead has been elegantly restored to its former glory with ornate Cape Dutch gabling, cool verandahs and a large, farmhouse kitchen as some of its main features. Settler-style antiques mix with fresh, contemporary pieces to create a subtle, stylish appeal. Natural, earthy hues reflect the surrounding landscape and rich textures add to the warm and welcoming ambience. Wireless internet is available throughout the villa.


Tucked away on 22 000 hectares of malaria-free wilderness in the Eastern Cape, Kwandwe Uplands Homestead enjoys a riverside setting on the Great Fish River. For self-drivers, it is only a 2-hour drive from Port Elizabeth Airport though a chauffeur service is available on request. A private airstrip at Kwandwe is also accessible for chartered flights.


Family-friendly and malaria-free, this graceful homestead is perfect for families with children or groups of friends in search of an exclusive-use and tailor-made Big 5 safari experience.

Best time to visit

A temperate climate ensures comfort throughout the year in the Eastern Cape. Summers can be hot between October and March, with temperatures highest in the December to February period. May to August sees mild winter days with chilly mornings and evenings, so bundle up on those dawn and dusk drives! Rain can be expected at any time of year in the Eastern Cape.

Special Notes

In order to deliver an authentic African safari experience, the lodge is not fenced so guests need to be vigilant of animal movement at all times. A security guard is on duty at night. There is Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the villa.


The spacious and fully-equipped farmhouse kitchen means you do not have to do a thing unless you want to: your personal villa chef is on hand to conjure up local culinary delights for you and your guests.

The two remaining guest bedrooms are comfortably furnished with antique Settler-style furnishings and command stunning views. Twin beds can be converted into doubles and a cot is available for infants. Air conditioning and wireless Internet are available.
