A haven for rest and relaxation, the property is ideally suited for intimate groups of friends or relatives who are looking for an idyllic and exclusive escape.
Located on Benguerra Island in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago, the 3-bedroom villa is footsteps from a deserted beach but still incorporates modern pleasures such as a wine bar, media room, Internet access and the services of a private chef and butler. Sleeping up to six in utter tranquillity, the villa also boasts a large infinity swimming pool and a private ‘tree house’ that has sweeping views to Bazaruto Dune.
Whether you choose to look for pansy shells, dive with turtles and dolphins or enjoy guided star-gazing sessions on the beach, The Presidential Villa at Azura offers you that rarest of activities: total relaxation and complete freedom to do as little – or as much – as you please.

“This haven of rest and relaxation is located some 150m down the beach from main Azura, and comes with its own Butler-host and private chef. The 3 bedroom en-suite luxury villa offers all of the mod-cons & facilities one can think of... & indeed some extra, culminating in the beach house of your dreams.”Monique Roden, Africa Safari Expert
Tall, shaggy thatch roofs peek out of the surrounding beach forest to catch the cooling breezes off the Indian Ocean. Inside, unique pieces like hand-hewn bar stools, other-worldly blue chandeliers and free-form bath tubs create a ‘back to nature’ atmosphere. The timber and natural fibre rooms are accented with powdery tones of blue to resonate with the wide-open sky above you.
The Presidential Villa lies within the exclusive Azura Retreat, which is located on the western coast of Mozambique’s Benguerra Island. The second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra lies within Bazaruto Marine National Park, which is famous for its unspoilt white beaches and incredible diving sites. Expect schools of graceful manta rays, hundreds of clownfish who look just like Nemo and perhaps – if you are lucky - even a rare dugong.
Azura Retreat also has a pampering spa, unpretentious restaurant, 5-star PADI centre (and specialised diving courses for children), and a fleet of seven boats for cruising around the island.
Because of its size and remoteness from the main lodge, The Presidential Villa is ideal for families with young children who want to the freedom to explore in a ‘home away from home’ environment.
Year-round temperate climes make Benguerra an ideal beach holiday destination. The cooler winter months between April and October enjoy endless blue skies, sunny days and very little rainfall, while the summer months between November to March become hotter and more humid with heavy tropical rain showers. Keep a look out for passing humpback whales between June and October as they migrate to their breedinggrounds and for nesting turtles on the beaches during summer. January to March is the traditional ‘Green Season’ when manta rays return to enjoy the warmer waters.
Benguerra Island has a short, grass airstrip for private planes but pilots should check conditions in advance as it lies within a wetland and may not always be suitable for landing and taking off.
A fully-equipped kitchen hosts your personal chef who will conjure up culinary delights from the freshest local ingredients. Seafood lovers will be spoilt for choice while the more adventurous should sample Mozambican specialities like succulent calamari and piri-piri chicken.
The master bedroom is a sumptuous split-level suite with a king-sized bed, oversize gauze canopies and crisp Egyptian cotton bed linen. A private sitting area - highlighted with shades of sorbet blue - and spacious dressing room offer guests ample intimate space, while air conditioning and overhead fans ensure optimum temperature control. In the morning, step onto an African cowhide, refreshed for another day.
Stylish décor, crisp Egyptian cotton bed linen and romantic muslin mosquito nets can be found in the remaining bedrooms, which also have restful ocean views. The third bedroom is ideal for children or staff.
The master en suite bathroom is a luxurious haven, with an elegant free-form bathtub, and a double walk-in shower. The second and third bedrooms also enjoy spacious en suite bathrooms with showers and baths, and all look out over the beach and ocean.
Although it lies in an unspoilt tropical archipelago, The Presidential Villa’s living areas are equipped with a Bose Sound Deck, and a flat-screen TV and DVD player for those evenings you feel like catching up on a movie. The star-shaped roof houses a wine bar, a lounge area with comfortable sofas and recliners, and a dining area with a unique hand-carved dining table – all accented with African art and sculpture.
Located just metres from the beach, the villa enjoys private access to untouched beaches and shimmering blue waters. Living spaces open onto an elegant wooden deck and an exquisite 16m infinity swimming pool that lights up at night for midnight swims under the stars. Sun loungers are the perfect place to relax with a book or an iPod, and a raised ‘tree house’ lounge offers an intimate place to escape and soak up the views, which can stretch all the way to Bazaruto Dune.
