“A stylish 2 bedroom villa in the heart of Franschhoek, Le Manoir is the perfect base for a quiet few days in the Cape Winelands, a short stroll from the galleries and restaurants of this quaint town.”Hazel Stuart, Africa Villas Expert
Imagine awaking in a curtained 4-poster bed, catching a glance in a Baroque gilt mirror or plucking a book to dip into from a floor-to-ceiling wooden bookshelf. Le Manoir manages to strike the perfect balance between grand and humble; classic and modern; aristocratic and homely.
Situated on the magnificent La Cle des Montagnes wine estate in the Western’s Cape Franschhoek valley, the villa is surrounded by some of the region’s finest wine-producing countryside. Originally founded by the French Huguenots after their exodus to Africa, this little ‘French corner’ is lovingly known today as the ‘Food and Wine Capital of the Cape’, producing superb wines and 5-star cuisine. Only about a 45-minute drive from Cape Town, the town also has excellent hiking, running and mountain-biking trails, a motor museum with unrivalled vintage cars and wonderful boutiques and galleries in its charming nooks and crannies.
This elegant 2-bedroom villa is perfect for couples or mature families and friends who want rustic charm with urban conveniences.
Franschhoek is never without its delights, no matter the time of year. From November to March, summer’s long, cheery days allow for lunches under the trees, horse riding through the vineyards and dinners under the stars. Between April and October, bundle up and seek out warm wine cellars or take your leisurely meals next to a log fire. Franschhoek’s two most popular festivals – the Literary Festival in May and the Bastille Festival in July – both take place in winter, when a light powdering of snow sometimes dusts the peaks of the encircling mountains.
Helicopter collection from the airport, private tours of the surrounding award-winning wine estates and a personal chef to cater for your culinary preferences can be arranged.
The beautifully appointed classic kitchen is fully equipped with up-to-the-minute appliances. A personal butler service will ensure whatever you desire is on tap.
Elegantly decorated in tones of red, black and white, the master bedroom has a romantic 4-poster king-sized bed and an ample dressing room. A private lounge area offers a peaceful place to relax with exquisite views of the mountain and rolling vineyards, while air conditioning and under-floor heating allow for optimum temperature control.
The second bedroom is spacious and light, with a king-sized bed that can be converted into twin beds and a television for those wanting to catch up on in-bed movies.
Airy en suite bathrooms accompany each of the bedrooms, with double walk-in showers and large oval baths that are made for wallowing. Intricate mosaic mirrors hang over double vanities and black and white tiles floors add Victorian appeal.
The comfortable lounge has contemporary-chic décor – including a plasma-screen TV - and large French doors that open onto the manicured garden. A wood-burning fireplace beckons on cold winter nights, and an 8-seater dining table takes centre stage in the spacious dining room that ends in an elegant French bay window that commands magical mountain views. A fully-stocked library with comfortable sofas and wall-to-ceiling book-laden shelves offers a tranquil and secluded spot to relax.
A shaded portico with comfortable sun loungers is a quiet place to savour a good book, while a private barbeque area and garden is perfect for South African-style dining. Cool off in the large, sparkling swimming pool in summer as you soak up the spectacular surrounding landscapes.
