Situated on the magnificent La Clé des Montagnes wine estate in the Franschhoek valley, Le Colonial lies in one of the Western’s Cape most beautiful wine-producing regions. Originally founded by French Huguenots following their exodus to Africa, this little French corner of South Africa is better known today as the country's ‘Food and Wine Capital', a destination of superb wines and internationally acclaimed French-inspired cuisine. Famous for its easy-going ambience and only 45 minutes from Cape Town, Franschhoek makes its visitors feel as if they have stepped into a quaint village in France, complete with local museums and sprawling wine estates.
Wine-lovers, fine-food aficionados and Francophiles will be naturally drawn to Franschhoek but Le Colonial is also ideal for groups of friends and families looking for a private Cape Winelands experience within easy reach of Cape Town, top golf courses and the stunning Whale Coast.
Cape Town and its surrounding Winelands can be visited at any time of the year. Most visitors prefer the long, hot summer days of December to February with their bustling beaches and busy restaurants but bear in mind that the Cape Winelands can be very hot in late summer.
Autumn (April and May) enjoy wonderful weather with less wind and lower temperatures while during the months of June to October, visitors can expect rainy and cooler days which are simply made for red wine and fireplaces. The rainstorms usually last a couple of days, and are punctuated by long sunny spells - perfect for exploring the surrounding countryside.
Helicopter transfers from the airport and private tours of the surrounding wine estates can be arranged for guests at Le Colonial, as can a personal in-house chef to cater for all your culinary needs.
The fully-equipped, open-plan Provencal kitchen is light and airy and comes complete with gas stove, fridge/freezer and oven. Bright blue tiles echo French charm, and an elegant 6-seater dining table makes for convivial mealtimes.
The master bedroom mixes Swedish design and Moroccan décor to create a cosy, elegant haven. A king-sized 4-poster bed is dressed in crisp white bed linen while the room's comfortable sitting area is interspersed with touches of rich, brightly-coloured textures and fabrics. Smooth wooden finishes are warm and welcoming with double doors opening onto the garden and pool area.
The elegant mix of natural, earthy tones and bright blocks of colour continue in the remaining three guest bedrooms, which all have comfortable king-sized beds and spacious en suite bathrooms. Air conditioning, under-floor heating and satellite television provide creature comforts and all rooms open onto the garden with lovely views. A luxury turn-down service is provided each night.
The four en suite bathrooms are spacious and colourful with elegant Victorian bathtubs and modern, walk-in showers. Bold and brightly patterned Moroccan-inspired floor tiles catch the eye, and under-floor heating provides cosy comfort in winter.
Designed in an L-shape, the living spaces of the villa are spacious, light and airy rooms where contemporary-chic décor in bold blocks of colour and richly patterned fabrics abound. A modern fireplace promises cosy winter nights, while French doors open out onto the beautifully-manicured garden, patio and barbeque area.
Panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and rolling vineyards provide the backdrop to Le Colonial's large garden and private swimming pool. Enjoy a barbeque with old friends on the patio on warm summer evenings or simply relax by the pool with a book and take in the views.
