St James & Kalk Bay Villas

Home > Accommodation > Villas > Neighbourhoods > St James & Kalk Bay

You'll recognise the moment you arrive in St James by the row of Victorian beach huts, painted in dazzlingly-bright primary colours.

A small seaside enclave along the beautiful, twisting coastline of False Bay, St James has a child-friendly tidal pool and warmer Indian Ocean water, which means that, despite its somewhat small stretch of sand, it remains a firm family favourite.

Across the road from this sheltered shore lie our St James villas, their windows framing huge views of the ocean and distant mountain ranges. Join the early-morning regulars for a refreshing dip in the tidal pool or have a lazy lie-in, then stroll to Kalk Bay for brunch. The main road of neighbouring Kalk Bay is cluttered with restaurants and coffee shops: try the buttery croissants at C’est La Vie or pick from the tasty menu options at the ever-popular Olympia Bakery.

A traditional Cape fishing village, Kalk Bay is also home to a thriving antiques and art community. After browsing a few shops selling bric-a-brac, furniture, books (try Kalk Bay Books for expert advice) and vintage clothes, wander down the road to the busy Kalk Bay Harbour where you can buy fish straight off the boats – the fisherwomen will even clean the day's catch for you, tossing treats to the resident Cape fur seals.

In the evening, take in a show at the unpretentious Kalk Bay Theatre or treat yourself to dinner at one of Kalk Bay’s iconic restaurants, such as Harbour House (perched directly on the rocks for the waves to crash beneath and famous for its seafood), The Polana or The Annex. For lazy weekend afternoons, visitors and locals alike flock to the Brass Bell for old-fashioned pub grub and swapping tall tales in the sun.

Accommodation in Kalk Bay has the same cosy charm as the village itself, perfect for those who prefer understated, ‘just like home’ comforts.

Perfectly positioned for a relaxed seaside holiday, our St James and Kalk Bay villas lie on this beautiful stretch of coastline far enough out of the city to enjoy quiet nights and the sound of the waves but central enough to reach any point on the peninsula with ease. To the south lie the endangered African penguins of Boulders Beach and jaw-dropping views at Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, while a 40-minute drive north takes you into the Cape Town city centre with its many attractions.

If you visit in spring (between August and October) your breakfast view is likely to include southern right whales breaching in the bay – a truly incredible sight!

From St James beach, stroll along the coastal promenade to Muizenberg - it takes about half an hour - then reward your efforts with gourmet gelato from Sinnfull or coffee and pastry at Knead Bakery.
