Lake Malawi offers the perfect combination of chilling out and playing in clear warm water: kayaking, snorkelling, swimming and sailing.

This massive lake - stretching out like an inland sea - is also one of the best freshwater dive sites in the world, so strap on scuba tanks and surround yourself in a colourful underwater world inhabited by hundreds of tropical fish species.

Between all these activities, find a convenient hammock for a bit of relaxing and romancing the lake of stars.

Although Malawi does have game parks, it is not a renowned big game destination. That said, it is known the world over for incredible bird watching, and Liwonde National Park offers exciting boat safaris through croc- and hippo-filled rivers.

Walking and mountain biking are also big attractions, and these can be done in the Nyika National Park - a beautiful area of grassland and forest situated on the Nyika Plateau.
