Malawi » General Information » Overview

Situated in the south east of Africa, Malawi is a landlocked country. It is bordered in the north by Tanzania, in the north-west by Zambia, and on the east, south, and west by Mozambique.

When travelling around Malawi buses are more commonly used by tourists, as trains tend to be slow and crowded. Hitching is possible but slow and unreliable and most drivers will expect a small fee if they pick you up.

Malawi is rated as one of the world's least developed countries. The economy is heavily dependant on agriculture, with the countries main agricultural exports being tobacco, tea and sugar.
