Religion in Malawi

In a country whose history has been shaped with the arrival of visitors in the form of explorers, colonists and missionaries it comes as no surprise that Christianity is the dominant religion in Malawi.

Almost 80% of the populace follow the Christian faith. The majority of these are Protestants, with Roman Catholicism being the second largest denomination. The only other major faith is Islam which about 15% of Malawians adhere to. Other religions, including traditional beliefs as well as various forms of non-belief make up the remaining 5%.
