Lake Malawi, Africa's third largest lake, is reputed to have some of the best fresh water scuba-diving in the world.

Colourful Fish and Fresh Water

The lake is famous for its huge variety of brightly coloured cichlid fish; close on 1 000 species in fact. There are also plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, and some excellent swim-throughs formed by the massive granite boulders.

Those who've never dived in fresh water before will be pleasantly surprised by how calm it is, with no ocean currents to batter you about. Other differences are the warm water temperatures at deeper depths, and the fact that you don't have to wear a weight belt.
