Malawi is a densely populated country - its capital city, Lilongwe has a population of over 400,000 people. Blantyre is Malawi's main commercial centre and largest city.

There are numerous other towns and cities dotted along the length of Malawi, with fairly large distances between each. Although Malawi is densely populated, most Malawians live rurally and traditionally.
