Mvuu Wilderness Lodge is situated along the banks of the Shire River in Liwonde National Park, Malawi's premier wildlife reserve. The reserve covers a range of habitats including marshes, open savanna, woodlands and hills.
A boat safari, game drives (morning, afternoon, and evening) and nature walks enable you to view a wide range of game, including large numbers of elephant and sable antelope, hippo, impala, and waterbuck.
Huge crocodiles and leopard are also fairly common. This is a great location for birding enthusiasts as birdlife is prolific, especially along the Shire River, where the African fish eagle, palmnut vulture, African skimmer, Pel's fishing owl, Bohm's bee eater, Lilian's lovebird, bat hawk and livingstone's flycatcher are frequently sighted, as well as a host of local "specials".
In addition to the main game viewing activities at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge, you can go on a bicycle trip from the boundary of Liwonde to the local villages outside the park - a fascinating cultural experience.
You can also experience a night in Ligwangwa, a typical rural Malawian village. Back at the lodge you can enjoy a drink from the bar and relax in the raised dining room or lounge area, overlooking the scenic river. Or just spend some quality time at the swimming pool.
