Malawi » Parks and reserves » Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve

Often overlooked due to the poor facilities, this reserve is well worth a visit due to the beautiful scenery and large concentration of game. The lake is home to a large number of hippos, and elephants and buffalo can often be spotted.

There are a number of 4WD tracks around the reserve, and walking around the lake is particularly rewarding, but you must be accompanied by a game ranger. Bird watching is excellent, and is one of the only areas in Malawi for waders. The reserve is easily accessible from Rumphi by car, and you can get there by public transport too, making it an ideal reserve for backpackers.
